LRSL_Actionteam4future goes COP
The Youth for Climate Action project was created to give young people an active role in global climate action. It provides students and young adults with the opportunity to engage deeply with the challenges of climate change and to bring their voices into international climate policy. The initiative is organized by the LRSL_Actionteam4future, the sustainability committee of Lycée Robert-Schuman in Luxembourg, in collaboration with other secondary schools such as Athenée and Lycée Aline Mayrisch, as was the case for the first edition.
The COP30 is the 30th session of the United Nations Climate Change Conference, scheduled to take place in Belém, Brazil, from 10 to 21 November 2025.
At this conference, world-leading politicians, environmental organizations, and experts come together to discuss solutions to the urgent challenges of climate change. For young people, the COP provides a valuable platform to bring their concerns directly into the negotiations and to influence future climate policy.
The project aims to raise awareness among young people about climate action and to give them a meaningful voice at COP30. It is organized around three main areas:
In Luxembourg:
Before COP30, students at Lycée Robert-Schuman and other schools complete a special questionnaire that helps the delegation effectively represent youth perspectives at the conference. At the same time, the schools host an exhibition on biodiversity and nature in Luxembourg to raise awareness about environmental sustainability. Additionally, students write postcards that are personally delivered by the Climate Youth Delegates to COP30 negotiators—a direct appeal to decision-makers.
At COP30:
An eight-member youth delegation presents the collected data, including completed questionnaires and contributions from partner organizations, at the conference. Delegates conduct interviews and relay youth questions directly to negotiators. Activities are shared live on social media to keep students and the wider public informed and engaged.
Post-COP30 Event:
The project will officially conclude with a post-COP30 event at the Athenée, which will include a roundtable discussion, the presentation of a final report, and a statement summarizing the project’s findings. Media coverage will ensure that the results and insights reach a broader audience.
Thanks to the support of major sponsors such as Oeuvre and the Fondation Andrew Losch, we were able to secure funding for our delegation’s participation in COP30. Building on our experiences at COP28 and COP29 and through collaboration with international organizations such as Eurosolar, Greenpeace, ASTM, and Amnesty International, we have gained valuable insights into climate policy.
Looking ahead, we will intensify our efforts and engage even more deeply with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We remain committed to driving climate action and mobilizing young people in Luxembourg and beyond to make a meaningful impact.
